Do you think that the worker in the chicken factory in 'Our Town' contracts CJD because she is a cannibal?The storyline seemed to suggest that. And it came up in another ep I can't remember right now.33. Has Mulder ever been in love?Of course. Even if you don't enter into the shippy arguement, you'd have to think at some point he did.34. Did Mulder study at Oxford?"He's an Oxford educated psychologist..." (Pilot) And that's canon even if the writers forget it.35. Does the Syndicate ultimately dissolve because of forces beyond their control?I'd say getting fried to a crisp was pretty beyond their control, unless you want to argue that their dealing with the aliens brought about their demise (as Mulder surmised in One Son).36. Mulder's sister becomes an alien hybrid. Has she always been one?First, we don't know that the tests were successful. Second, the only "success" appears to be Cassandra Spender and who knows what happened to all the other family members and children the Syndicate "gave up." Third, if she always was one, then there was a lot of serious modern genetic engineering going on that had to involve Mrs. Mulder back in the 1960s. She's been spacy, but not that spacy to ignore such. And by that arguement, Mulder could be one too.37. In her heart does Scully believe in the paranormal and extra terrestrials?By S8/9, probably most of it. But back in S1...no way. Define time please. That and this question really involves us having to put words in her mouth.38. Is it in Season 2 that Scully disappears for the first time and consequently finds herself in a coma?I can't think of any other disappearances and comas in S1, so yeah. Eps 2X06-7 and 2X08, Ascension-One Breath arc.39. Is the black oil that we first encounter in 'Piper Maru' a metaphor for blood?I thought the black oil was the medium for the alien virus, which seems to be the active component of alien life as we've seen it. By that description, it's more a *body* than blood. And why exactly would it be a metaphor for blood? Simply because it looked like it?[added: Humm, though in FTF the alien "blood" really was the black oil... But why consider this a metaphor? In Piper Maru as far as we knew, the oil was simply another alien type.]40. Was Samantha's abduction intentional?Yes. Each of the Syndicate members had to give up family members as collateral and for the potential of saving them through genetic hybridization. See the WMM's explanation to Mulder in the novelization of FTF and the events of PX/TRATB.41. In 'Anasazi' are alien corpses found?Arguably, the bodies in the boxcar were human (though experimentally modified) because they all bore smallpox scars. To my knowledge the aliens don't need such vaccination, and IMO their every being has to be somewhat similar if bees can transmit both smallpox and the alien virus as we see in Zero Sum/FTF.42. Are the bees which appeaar in 'Herrenvolk,' 'Zero Sum' and [FTF] carrying plague?(42!!) Well, they're carrying something. I'd say the alien virus is a plague. ("The plague to end all plagues...") Though if this is like an anal True/False question, technicaly Zero Sum had them carrying smallpox and we were never told what the Herrenvolk bees had.43. Is the vicious alien that gestates in someone's torso in 'The Beginning' the same as the familiar Gray alien?In my viewings, there seem to be even two types of greys. Those more peacible (Unnatural, etc) and those which rip and tear (FTF, The Beginning), though I guess the idea was that the gray goes through a number of metamorphasis (sp?) ... It could be possible. I'm not overly convinced though.44. Is 'Purity Control' the name of the hybridization project?As neither Fire nor I can remember enough specifics of Erlenmeyer Flask, we leave that up to debate. However, as hybridization was one of the main focuses of The Project, I'd say that falls under that title, and Purity Control only the tag for the genetic matieral in the flask--the untampered alien material.45. Do the events shown in flashback in 'Per Manum' take place after 'Biogenesis?'First, as the only ep to get timestamped from mid S7-S9 is Redrum, nobody can really know. Second, Per Manum seems to fit in different places even in S7 time. Third... I honestly think that Scully could only ask what she did after certain events and personal realizations of S7 occured. Though if PM really did occur much earlier than we originally thought, it'd be intersting to conisder. But I've never heard that idea brought up any discussion ever.46. Does Scully ask Mulder to help her conceive a child through IVF?Yes. See Per Manum.47. After it is confirmed that Billy Miles is not dead, is he still human?Depends on your POV. He literally shed his skin and took on all the characteristics and mindset of a human-replicant, which seem to be all metal and some flesh. I'd argue not.48. When Scully becomes pregnant in Season 7, is it Mulder's?(Okay, I have *so* many problems with this question.)One: We still don't know how the heck Scully even got pregnant, much less how that was even possible when she wasn't supposed to be able to even have children. Two: S7&8&9 did nothing to put forward one possible answer over the other. Three: Even IVF, if it worked, doesn't necessarily mean that either of them are the biological parents, especially if there were ulterior motives for William's being. Four: The "natural" argument would pretty much have to be, though that's yet to be proven even where that might have occured in S7 (there's a couple of timeframes), much less if it really did. Five: From Essence, even Mulder doesn't seem to surely know. Six: There was absolutely nothing in NIHT:II that substantiates that William was "created"--Scully never found her or her baby's name on that ship--again leaving us out of the loop again to say how and who. Seven: In conclusion, as we never were told how William came to be, we can't confirm or deny Mulder's part.And eight: If you want to be like me, I always argued that even if William wasn't biologically theirs, it didn't really matter. And by The Truth, he sure as hell was still "their son," all things considered.49. The alien replicants appear to want to kill Scully's child but when given the chance, do they?No, they just stare creepily. See Existence. It was the UFO cult that wanted William, though all the motives and characters of S9 are just *screwed* IMHO.50. Does Scully have a child before her pregnancy in Season 7?Not physically, but biologically: Emily Sims. See CC/Emily S4.51. Are alien implants placed in the head of abductees?Implants are found at the base of the neck or in the nasal cavity. I would say so.(They can also be found elsewhere in the body, but the head/neck seems key.)52. In [TRATB] does the alien bounty hunter try to dispose of an alien rebel because he is working for the Syndicate?I can't remember... and the politics of TRATB were all messed up. Are the faceless aliens and the shapeshifting aliens one and the same?They seem to be of the same kind, though argh, the faceless aliens were rebels who had disfigured themselves so as to not be succeptable to the virus, and many of the shapeshifting aliens are the grey's (as the Unnatural seems to suggest), which would make them two different alien types. In 'Three of a Kind' does Suzanne Modeski know she is aiding a project which aims to eliminate a person's free will?I'm having problems remembering the exact differences between Unusual Suspects and Three of a Kind...as in the first ep she initially didn't know, but the second ep she had some idea (just not a full one). Ask me later.58. Although mysterious, are the walk-in spirits helpful?They led Mulder to his sister...that's pretty helpful.59. Does Mulder ever tell Scully he loves her?In chorus now: TRIANGLE! At least blatantly (and drugged). Arguably they've both said it in more real ways in a hundred other moments. ; )60. Does Mulder's mother die?Not only does she die, she visits as a ghost. In 'Empedoc[l]es' does Reyes have a vision involving Scully's future?As I can't remember Empedocles (which the site spelled wrong) at this very moment, I'll leave this one blank right now.62. Scully has her ova removed when she is abducted, so is her pregnancy down to divine intervention?One: Mulder stole back a vial of them back in Memento Mori, even if I have serious qualms about the probability of Per Manum's ideas for it via IVF. Two: We have no idea what actually constituted the 'inability to have children' so we don't know the probability of that whole biological system working or not. Three: There is that idea of CSM and En Ami and a "fix" for whatever was wrong. Four: Per Manum--*IF* anything worked in that ep, scientifically or "naturally" as many have conjectured. Five: Divine intervention named Chris Carter...(Okay, I guess it is possible, as the cancer cure had a similar option but still..)64. Is Cassandra Spender the first successful alien hybrid?As far as we're told, yes. See TF/OS.65. Do the Colonists achieve their slave race by mutating abductees?Well, the replicants were certainly achieved by mutating abductees, but it's not entirely clear (to me at least) which alien race was creating them. The original idea was to create hybrids who could survive the virus, which then logically seems to mean subserviance to the alien race...66. Do alien-human hybrids resemble Gray aliens more than they do [the] faceless?What? How? The hybrids look *human* so they can blend in. The faceless rebels look human-ish. On that I would say no, but with this test....67. Although the Syndicate seems to be working towards hybridization, are there ulterior motives at play?Yes, the vaccine.68. Would a vaccine against the black oil save humanity?Would it save our health and bodies and minds? Yes.Would we then still prevail over the aliens in a physical battle afterwards? Granted I am in the middle of a paper which has been limping along due to my AIM chatter... But wow. I mean. Wow.I ran over to catch the end of Existence, and caught it perfectly. And I just wanted to cry and laugh and jump afterward, as much as if I'd never seen it. I'm just on high a star somewhere after the last two hours.Things just seemed to be settled--and clear. I mean, I thought hints of things, but I was never so sure. It just feels like something really did fall together. Like a number of things finally fell together.And I can't really explain, but...It is so terribly sad and amazingly beautiful all at once.

Reading...

Towards the middle of the summer when I made library runs, I took a break from Harry Potter to read the only XF book I never picked up, which was Skin, the last one published.And with Skin, I found I was reading with a slightly critical eye, similar to how I read fic sometimes. I was wondering about how the characters were written, how the story was going, and was noticing Meiser's style of total detail in description, etc.Well, after finishing that one and talking about it and the books in general with Fire, I got to wondering a little bit more. Because honestly, it had to be about 4 or 5 years since I read the others. I realized I quite did not remember any of them very well other than Ruins -- and vaguely at that.Also, Memy tended to be quite youngish and dense back in those days in relation to the series and the world. So I've picked back up Ground Zero, which I basically came off hating the first time, but which I wonder if that might have had to do with either not understaning stuff or just not being excited by it. I'm working on it and I'll have to type my updated opinion when I finish.But I realized something the other day while reading. I shy away from even typing the title online because of 9/11. Because it means something so much more frightening and terrible now. But for some reason, while I have this side thought, I totally don't make a connection. I guess perhaps because I associate the title in context of a book title in these instances here, I don't let it connect. Or maybe I associate it with the original time I knew and first heard this title, rather than the national meaning it holds more recently.It's almost like they are homonyms in my head.Anyway. Off to sleep. More on GZ and the other books later.

Requiem

::watching FX::With my luck, this will be the last rerun I see before school. Anyway.::on to random XF musings::Maybe it's just me, or how the last two seasons and this ep played out, but the tide really turned with Requiem, didn't it?I dunno, I rewatched and rewatched this ep on summer hiatus that year. I still watch it and am not sure I can figure anything out. Two years later and I'm still asking questions, still trying to read every minute detail that was never meant to be looked at.But still I wonder. Because everything only got more strange from that point on. So strange that you could't even put the pieces together yourself because you didn't know what the pieces even were.... And somehow in my head this ep is frozen in time.It had a totaly different feel to it, which made you *know* something was up. And for as close as the signings were that year, it was very nearly the last. Thus it also had an odd impact (though not as great as if it had ended there.) But it's hard to remeber that or even care since we did get S8 and 9.It's just odd to think of Requiem as the last M&S case since it aired so long before the final end. Because really, though reunited in S8, things were not (and couldn't be put) back to the same as they were before in S7.Which I'm not complaining (i'll have to wander on other seasons later ; ), but that's a fact I realized in the middle of S8.I guess I've always just thought of Requiem as a bridge between everything, looking back. And I still want it to explain everything before and since. Which I know it won't do, but still I look. If to just put any sort of definition to it, any sort of solid marker in my mixed up head.And I think I've run out of direction for one post. But when you have to laugh at the "first case" reminders, your heart still nearly stops at the shippy spooning and the announcement at the end and when you look back with a sense of reminiscence for the old and a feeling of empathy for knowing what came next...Heh. It's been too long. I should have kept writting reviews.
